Teeth Biting Gums and/or Palate - Examples

When any teeth bite on the palate o gums opposite them it is going to be painful so look for this sort of situation in your pet. If you see these painful situations make an appointment to see your veterinarian or a veterinary dentist. These can require advanced training to correct. Below are examples of what you might see.

Example 1.

Bottom canine teeth biting on gums above themThe lower canine teeth in the young dog on the left were found to be biting down on the gums above them. This is painful and needs to be seen by a veterinary dentist. This is called 'base narrow' or 'linguoversion of the mandibular canine teeth'. If left like this the permanent upper canine teeth will be worn away in that spot and a hole will develop.
